Devotions For Music Ministers

Devotion For Music Ministers

I will bless the LORD at all times, His praise will continually be in my mouth. My soul will make it's boast in the LORD. The Humble will here thereof and be glad.
Oh magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt His name together
Psalm 34:1-3

The Sacrifice Of Praise

Psalm 107:21. Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! 22. And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing.

I love to praise the Lord. I just love expressing my thankfulness to Him. Jesus is my salvation. He is my joy and life. When the scripture talks about the sacrifice of praise it is talking about the praise that comes out of our mouth. Praise expressing thankfulness. Praise expressing salvation. Praise expressing miracles and provisions of God. Praise is vocal. Praise is expressive. Praise needs to be done in personal devotion and in public.
Jeremiah 33: 11. The voice of joy, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the voice of them that shall say, Praise the Lord of hosts: for the Lord is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: and of them that shall bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of the Lord. For I will cause to return the captivity of the land, as at the first, saith the Lord.
It's only right for a church service to begin with singing praise to God. This seems to be a regular instruction of scripture.

Hebrews 13: 15-16. By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.  But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

From The Power of Praise and Worship by Terry Law pg 122 The word often translated as “thanks” in the Old Testament is related to the word for “hand.” The Hebrew concept of giving thanks is stretching out or lifting up of the hand to God.

Psalms 63

1. O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;

2. To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.

3. Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.

  1. 4. Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.

Thanks can be silent heartfelt. Praise is always vocal. To mix the thanksgiving and praise together is heartfelt rejoicing. It is vocal. It is demonstrative. It is the way to approach God.

Psalm 100
  • vs 2. Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
  • Vs 4. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

Always remember the goodness of God in good times and in bad. Give Him praise. Sacrifice is the way people approached God. Our sacrifice to Him is our praise.
